Sentinel of the Caribbean (11x11 unframed)
These “sculptures” live on the coast of the island of Bonaire in the Caribbean. They stood to guide the ships receiving the products of the salt flats worked by the slaves of the Dutch Colonists. Because of the shallow corals women would have to walk on gangplanks set up over the treacherous coral in order to meet the shipping vessels. The salt flats are still there today, worked by the locals in service of a US multinational corporation, Cargill.
